I have been concentrating on watching whinchats on Holne Moor over the last few weeks, a friend showed me how to find the nest when the female is incubating and I went out and found a few for myself. Sixteen pairs are nesting in the area and most have young in the nest or newly fledged young. Only one nest was predated and that pair have renested nearby and the female is now sitting on 5 eggs. Four of the birds were ringed and have been recaught, three of tbe breeding females are birds ringed in the nest here last year and one of the males was ringed in 2006 as a young bird, he has returned to the same spot to breed for at least the past two years.
