Orchard thrushes 28 December 2010

There has been a small flock of thrushes feeding on the bumper crop of apples in a local orchard for the last few weeks. After heavy snow fell a few days ago the numbers increased dramatically with at least 80 redwings, 40 blackbirds, and a few mistle thrushes, song thrushes and fieldfares.

Redwings 10 January 2010

A flock of about 20 redwings feeding in a berry bush in the garden. They first appeared about a week ago and numbers have built during the cold weather. They are still quite shy, flying off into nearby trees if disturbed, though they can be viewed at close range from the window.
