Latest Entry: Cuckoos, Holne Moor
- Cuckoos, Holne Moor 20 May 2012
After a late arrival the cuckoos seem to be doing well on Dartmoor – there are at least three males and 2 females around Venford Reservoir. They are very wary birds and often difficult to watch but one evening I sketched this male perched at the top of conifers for over an hour. It was joined in the tree tops by a wing-waving willow warbler and a meadow pipit.
- Cuckoos, Holne Moor 08 July 2009
I have been on a mission for the last week attempting to see a cuckoo lay an egg in a meadow pipit nest. No easy task as the actual laying takes just a few seconds.
Listen to the Radio 4 Living World programme on Cuckoos broadcast in August 2009.
- Juvenile Cuckoos at Venford, Dartmoor 28 July 2008
The first juvenile was seen at the end of June and I first caught up with it on 4th July.
